HORSE CART SMALL ANIMAL HOSPITAL
Our hospital seemed to spring up organically, almost of its own free will. Maybe the metaphor that applies is
of gently nudging a snowball off the top of a hill and watching it roll relentlessly downward, gaining size and
momentum as it went.
There were a lot of trees and boulders and even cliffs in the way of the snowball - there always are - but this
one seemed to somehow dodge all of those and keep going regardless, as though some greater purpose
were involved. Who knows about that, but it sure felt that way while the hospital was being planned and built.
As of January 31st of 2009 the hospital was just a notion, really, arising from a simple sense that a clinic that
focused very intently on discovering just what is best for each individual patient and then doing those things
with great sincerity, honesty and compassion is the best way to practice medicine.
By mid-February, preliminary floor plans had been completed and submitted to a designer. On February
28, those plans were submitted to the country for approval, and our building permits issued. Construction
started on April 3rd, and was completed by June 15. We opened on June 22nd, 2009.
Horse Cart was just an idea in late January, 2009. A litle over four and a half months later, we opened the
doors of a beautiful new hospital and met our very first clients and pets.
The hospital was planned and designed by Dr. David (Dave to the staff and clients) Jolly, a 1987
graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine (please do not hold the Texas upbringing
against him - he does the best he can under the circumstances.)
Dave owned a hospital in Michigan for many years and has also practiced emergency and critical care
medicine in a couple of the leading facilities for advanced care in the country. Given that background, and
given the physical capabilities of the clinic, we can handle very difficult cases and plan to eventually make
Horse Cart a 24 hour care facility for this immediate area.
We refer when we have to, for delicate eye surgery, back surgery and the like, but overall we can do a lot of
difficult medicine and surgery here. In fact, we already have. Stop by and take a tour - we are a very open
place, and we know you and your much loved critters will feel very much at home here.
